SEARSPORT and BELFAST — Waldo County WindowDressers is organizing two community builds this fall to make almost 500 new window inserts and rewrap 170 existing inserts.

Volunteers are needed to help with these two events taking place at the Searsport Community Center from Oct 14-19, and at the Belfast Boathouse from November 8-21. Come for one four-hour shift or many, with a free lunch and snacks provided every day. No experience is necessary; training is provided. As a precaution, masks are recommended.

Tasks vary from creating the lightweight wood frames, wrapping them on both sides with clear plastic, heating the plastic to tighten it, and applying foam weather stripping around all edges. The result is a clear, lightweight, low-cost window insert which fits snugly into the existing interior window frame.

By providing the labor to create these windows, volunteers enable them to be an affordable solution for many to reduce their heat loss and improve the comfort of their homes this winter.

“It is a great way to support your community,” said WindowDressers.
