SEARSPORT — The Waldo County Bounty (WCB) benefit concert is back for a second year to raise funds to improve access to locally grown food. Dance the night away to The Sugar Snaps on Saturday, May 16, from 7 - 8:30 p.m., at Hey Sailor’s Starboard Lounge, 27 E. Main St., in Searsport. All funds raised will go toward buying food from local farms for local food pantries, according to Waldo County Bounty, in a news release.

The Sugar Snaps are a high-energy, eight-piece R&B band with powerhouse vocals and a classic horn section, according to Bounty.

“Last year’s benefit concert was such a hit we had to do it again,” said Angela Baglione, director of Waldo County Bounty, in the news release. “We really appreciate The Sugar Snaps for donating their time and music and Hey Sailor! for donating its space for a second year in a row. Please come out for a fun night in support of WCB food access programming!”

Waldo County Bounty is a hunger relief nonprofit working to ensure that everyone has access to fresh, nutritious food by collaborating with local farmers, organizations, and community members towards an equitable food system. WCB was founded during the pandemic and has since distributed over 375,000 pounds of locally grown food to area food access sites. 

Waldo County Bounty’s core programs include Give & Take stands, 24 locations where neighbors can give and take homegrown produce at no cost countywide; the Veggies For All gleaning program, which rescues surplus crops from local farms for local food security; and the Farm-to-Pantry program, operated in partnership with Daybreak Growers Alliance, which buys crops from local farms for food pantries. 

Hey Sailor! will serve its globally inspired food and drink and donate 10% of all sales to Waldo County Bounty as part of the fundraiser. Opening at 4 p.m., the Hey Sailor! kitchen offers appetizers such as street corn fritters and Korean fried chicken wings and heartier fare such as tacos, burritos, burgers, and pizza. 

Tickets begin at $25 and can be reserved online at waldocountybounty.org/tickets. (Remaining tickets will be sold at the door the night of the show.)
