CAMDEN — To the relief of Camden Post Office box holders and those who appreciate the historic institution on Chestnut Street, the building is to reopen to foot traffic with mail settling into Camden Post Office boxes by mid-morning April 11.

The news arrived with a letter tucked into the temporary boxes that Camden postal patrons had been using in the Rockland Post Office.

Since September 2022, Camden box holders  have been driving to Rockland, eight miles down Route 1, to collect their mail.

But on March 29, there was this happy news from Camden Postmaster Sarah B. Chapman:

    “Dear Valued Postal Customer:

“The day has finally arrived. The Camden Post Office will be reopening the week of April 8, 2023. We will be moving the P.O. boxes back to Camden on Saturday, April 8.

“Your mail will not be available on Saturday, April 8, and Monday, April 10, to provide time to move the mail back to Camden. On Tuesday, April 11, mail will be available by mid-morning, as it was prior to the move.

“The retail operation will not be fully functional that first week; however, we do expect to be up and running for retail operations by the following Monday, April 17. We will, however, be able to assist with you P.O. box specific needs starting Tuesday, April 11.

“Please return the key for your Rockland P.O. Box to the retail staff in Rockland before Saturday, April 8. Any mail and parcels accumulated in Rockland will be moved to Camden.

“Thank you for your patience this year. We look forward to reopening and continuing to privy excellent service.”
