UPDATED: Minor injuries in Rockport crash; vehicles demolished
ROCKPORT — A two-vehicle crash on Route 90 near Midcoast Recreation Center Monday afternoon demolished both a Ford pickup and a small SUV. The driver of the pickup was uninjured; the driver of the SUV was treated at the scene by a North East Mobile Health Services EMT crew.
According to Rockport Police Sgt. Travis Ford, Charles Heald, 49, of Rockport, was heading east on Route 90 in his 2014 Ford Raptor 150 when Jacob Zontini, 22, of Camden, driving westbound in a 2005 Ford Escape, pulled into his lane.
Zontini apparently attempted to make a left-hand turn into a parking lot, and instead “made a turn into Mr. Heald’s path,” said Ford.
He was treated for lacerations to the face, but refused transport to Pen Bay Medical Center.
Traffic was slowed to one lane after the head-on crash occurred at approximately 1 p.m.
Zontini was issued a summons for failure to yield right of way.
Rockport firefighters cleaned debris off the highway, and Camden Exxon loaded and towed the two vehicles to a Camden garage.
