Three Rockport highway crashes keep responders in motion
ROCKPORT — Local legend has it that if there are two emergencies in Rockport in one day that warrant a response from rescue crews, then another is bound to happen. They tend to come in threes, and today, Dec. 20, was no different.
“It seems to be the way things happen in Rockport,” said Fire Chief Jason Peasley.
Rockport firefighters, police and ambulance crews responded this morning to a single-vehicle crash on Route 90, where a driver heading east veered off into a ditch following a medical emergency. She is fine now, according to Peasley, and home resting.
Then, just before 11:30 a.m., two sedans crashed on Route 1, opposite Hoboken Gardens. According to initial reports, the driver of one vehicle was attempting to turn into the 3 Dogs cafe driveway when there was a collision with another vehicle.
Both drivers were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center by North East Mobile Health Services with non-life-threatening injuries.
And then, just as soon as the firetrucks had been backed into the station bays, another call came, this time from further down Route 1 at the intersection of Old County Road.
There three southbound vehicles — a pickup, minivan, and pickup — edged into each other in a straight line at the traffic light, causing minor damage to the vehicles.
No one was injured and everyone went on their way. The busy pre-holiday traffic eased through the scene slowly, and there was little to clean up.
Rockport Police Sgt. Travis Ford, however, was left with multiple reports to complete, and this story will be updated when more details become available.
