Summer takes a swim too far
Last Tuesday morning, July 25, an overly ambitious puppy named Summer – an eclectic mix of Beagle, Golden Retriever, Great Dane, and Hound — was playing with other dogs at Laite Beach.
Summer spotted a duck with young ones in the water and began swimming towards them. The dog did not respond to calls from the owner and disappeared amongst the many boats moored far from shore.
It was clear to all that the duck was intent on leading this dog astray, perhaps away from her young.
A quick cell phone call from a fellow dog owner summoned Harbor Master Steve Pixley, who raced to the outer harbor in search of the dog.
After numerous different hand gestures from the shore, PIxley spotted the dog and the duck, approximately 150 to 200 yards from shore, and was able to direct them towards the shore where the owner’s son was able to grab and leash the dog.
