Members of the board and advisory board of The Stewardship Education Alliance (S.E.A.) announced the opening of a S.E.A. Park at the Camden Public Landing next to the Harbor Master’s building.  The project features a 300-gallon marine aquarium along with picnic tables and planters built by students from the Camden Regional High School Hatchery Innovation Center. 

The lumber they used was recycled from the harbor boardwalk damaged by last December’s ocean storm.  The aquarium was constructed by S.E.A. members with the financial support of an anonymous donor, materials donated from Hammond Lumber and Lowes and creatures contributed by Camden Harbor Cruises.

The park will offer an attractive place to sit and relax surrounded by a pollinator garden and is an opportunity for visitors to observe the habitat in the waters of Camden harbor, and its rich diversity of marine life in the aquarium.  Signage will provide a picture and description of each species for identification.  

The objective is to inspire the public to gain an appreciation for our intricate and interdependent ecosystem in the harbor, where the Megunticook River flows into the sea, and is consistent with S.E.A‘s mission to create an educated and engaged community to be better stewards of local watershed. S.E.A has a permit from the Maine Department of Marine Resources to collect marine specimens for educational purposes.

The Stewardship Education Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and awards grants to teachers in public and private schools and after-school programs in Camden and Rockport for projects, activities, and professional development that further its mission.
