South Thomaston driver charged with OUI, endangering welfare of a child
SOUTH THOMASTON — Friday evening, May 9, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Spear investigated the crash of a 2001 Chevy pickup truck that skidded approximately 100 feet after failing to negotiate a curve on Westbrook Street. He found three young children in the truck with the driver, along with a 30-pack of beer and an opened can of alcoholic beverage.
The driver, Derrick Woodward, 26, of South Thomaston, was subsequently arrested and charged with OUI, driving to endanger, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The children were all under the age of 7. None were injured and all were taken home by relatives.
There was minimal damage to the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
