Slow Down St. George traffic study group to hold citizens’ meeting Feb. 8

Event has passed

A Traffic Safety/Slow Down St. George meeting is set to take place on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. at the St.George Town Office in Tenants Harbor.

This is a public meeting and everyone is welcome.

The traffic study group, or Slow Down St. George, is a recently-created informal citizens group authorized by the St. George Select Board after a number of residents complained of speeding traffic, endangering walkers, runners, bike-riders and even other motorists.

Various suggestions have included signs, designated paths, speed humps, and a town-wide educational campaign urging voluntary compliance with speed limits. Especially at risk are neighborhoods such as Port Clyde, Tenants Harbor village, and Clark Island village.

The hope is for the group to agree to some recommendations to the Select Board, which can then take action if it so chooses.
