ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre’s monthly Family Film Matinee series will present a sing-along version of the original Mary Poppins (1964) on Sunday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. The matinee series presents favorite family films from yesterday and today, screened on the last Sunday of every month. 

“Join the practically perfect Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, as Mary Poppins soars onto the big screen in Disney’s colorful adaptation of P.L. Travers’ beloved children’s book,” said the Strand, in a news release. “An unforgettable Julie Andrews stars as Mary Poppins, a magical nanny in London who teaches the two children in her care valuable life lessons, sometimes with the help of a friendly chimney sweeper played by a charismatic Dick Van Dyke.”

The audience is invited to sing along with “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Step in Time,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” and more. On-screen song lyrics will appear in this presentation.

To kick off the show, a brief New Year’s Eve countdown will take place immediately prior to the screening – offering an alternative to those who don’t want to stay up until midnight.

Mary Poppins is rated G and has a running time of 2 hours 19 minutes.
