ROCKPORT — Even from a young age, Sarah Haskell knew she had a passion for helping others feel better about themselves. Beauty and wellness is fundamental to that, and after 10 years working for other salons, she decided to branch off on her own and open her own business.

Sarah’s Hair Studio opened in August at the Salon Suites by the Sea, at 330 Commercial Street (Route 1) in Rockport adjacent to the intersection of Route 1 and Pascal Avenue.

“I’m excited to be out on my own,” she said. “My main focus has always been and always will be what I can do to provide the best service and results for clients. I am now able to completely customize hair colors and styling products that suit my clients wants, needs, and desires by being my own boss.”

As a licensed cosmetologist, her goal is to provide beauty, cosmetic and personal care to people.

She likes to customize hair colors and styling products that suit her clients wants, needs, and desires, and is able to do so because she is now her own boss.

“That has truly been exciting, not only myself but, I believe, for my clients, as well,” she said.

Haskell is leasing space from Salon Suites by the Sea, a business established by Stephanie Turner, and which includes providing salon suites to independent wellness and beauty ventures.

Salon Suites by the Sea is in the former Fuller Automotive building, which was purchased in 2018 by Rockport Center LLC. Douglas Clayton, of Camden, is the principal of the LLC and said in 2018 that his plan was to renovate the building into separate units and rented to commercial tenants.

Sarah’s Hair Studio specializes in hair cutting, color, styling and hair extensions, as well as keratin smoothing treatments and facial waxing, said Haskell.

Her appreciation of a beauty and wellness career began when she was a little girl, and practiced cutting hair on dolls.

“All of my Barbies and dolls had all of their hair cut off by me,” she said. “It wasn’t pretty. It got to the point where my Mom refused to buy me any of the expensive Barbies or dolls because she knew I’d cut off  their hair.”

She has always being fascinated by the art of hairdressing, and wants to build her business to a level whereby she can give back to the local community.

“I have many ideas and dreams about that... stay tuned,” she said. “The support I’ve received from everyone has been absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to give back even more to everyone when I can.”
