ROCKPORT — Junior Legion baseball, offering highly competitive baseball for players age 17 and younger without the high cost of for-profit travel teams, will be coming to Knox County this summer.

The Rock Coast Rip Tide team will be open to players from the Camden Hills and Oceanside school districts. The team is a non-profit team sponsored by the Maine American Legion Post 30 in Camden.

Tryouts will be held Sunday, May 16 and Saturday, May 22 at Marge Jones Field in Rockport from 10 a.m. to noon. Players must attend at least one of the two dates, and tryouts are free to attend.

The organization is for players with a birth year of 2004, 2005 or 2006.

Games will begin June 6 and will consist of 16 regular season games plus playoffs. Games played on Sundays will be doubleheaders. Once the varsity baseball concludes, contests will be held Wednesdays and Fridays.

Home games and practices will be held at Marge Jones Field. Road games will be around the state including in Belfast, Machias and Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium. Most away games will be less than 90 minutes away.

The cost to join the organization will be $100 and financial aid is available.

For those already on Babe Ruth teams this summer, the organization expects its players to fulfill the Babe Ruth commitments and play for your Babe Ruth team if conflicts arise.
