Police release name of 21-year-old killed in Frankfort crash
FRANKFORT - Twenty-one-year-old Zachary Callahan of Frankfort died Sunday evening after his car went off the road on which he lived.
Waldo County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeffrey Trafton said Callahan, whose name was released on Tuesday, was traveling alone in a vehicle at the time of the accident, reported at 8:19 p.m., May 25.
“Eyewitnesses stated that he passed them at a high rate of speed and lost control,” Trafton said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Trafton said police believe Callahan’s tires went off the right side of the road, at which point he overcorrected and hit a bank on the opposite side of the road, the car flipped and Callahan was ejected from the vehicle.
The accident remains under investigation, he said.
Asked if alcohol was a factor, Trafton said he didn’t know yet.
“He’d been at a party, but we don’t know how much he’d had or if he’d had any,” he said.
