Pair arrested in Rockland domestic dispute, officer assaulted
ROCKLAND — A man and woman were arrested Sunday morning, Feb. 5, after Rockland police and Knox County Sheriff Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance, where an officer was assaulted, at a residence on Purchase Street.
Sierra McDonald, 23, of Rockland, was arrested for felony assault on an officer, refusing to submit to arrest, and disorderly conduct. Shawn Gamage, 28, of Rockland, was arrested and charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and obstructing government administration.
Both were transported to Knox County Jail in Rockland. Bail was set at $2,500 cash for McDonald and $500 cash for Gamage.
McDonald remained in jail until her initial court appearance in Knox County Unified Court on Feb. 6. Gamage posted bail soon after his arrest. During McDonald’s hearing, Judge Susan Sparaco increased her bail to $5,000 cash and she still remains in jail.
According to the police affidavit, Rockland Sgt. Kenneth Smith and Officer William Smith first arrived on the scene at 8:45 a.m. They warned McDonald that she would be arrested if she did not stop screaming and calm down. She then allegedly kicked and punched Officer Smith.
After several attempts to subdue McDonald, police had to use a taser to secure her in handcuffs, according to the police report.
Gamage allegedly attacked Sgt. Smith but he did not sustain any injuries.
Officer Smith received injuries to his knees and hand, including a laceration, and was evaluated at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, released, and cleared to return to duty.
McDonald will appear in court again on May 11. A court date has not yet been set for Gamage.
