BELFAST — A Swanville woman was killed following a single-vehicle accident involving the motorcycle she was a passenger on, according to Belfast Police Chief Michael McFadden.

Constance Clark, 50, was riding on the back of the motorcycle that was traveling on City Point Road just after 6 p.m., July 21,  when the driver, Jason Perkins, 51, lost control for unknown reasons.

Perkins, of Belfast, and Clark were thrown from the motorcycle onto the street. A witness to the accident told police that it looked like the motorcycle began to skid and that Perkins briefly appeared in control of the vehicle, only to lose control fractions of a second later, the police report said.

Police and ambulance services tended to Clark before she was transported to Waldo County General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

McFadden said it does not appear that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash, although the accident is under investigation by the Maine State Police.

It is unclear whether Perkins or Clark were wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
