A Newcastle man with prior convictions for domestic violence assault has been arrested and charged with another alleged incident.

John Lawson, 22, of Newcastle, was arrested Saturday, Jan. 10 in Bremen and charged with felony domestic violence assault after he allegedly smashed a woman's head against a sliding door.

Lawson has been convicted of domestic violence assault before. In 2013 Lawson was charged with domestic violence assault Class C in the Lincoln County Superior Court in Wiscasset, and he was charged with two counts of Class C domestic violence assault in 2014, from the same court.

Lawson had previously been convicted on two counts of domestic violence assault.

An arrest report from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Chubbuck states that he was dispatched to a residence in Bremen to deal with an alleged disturbance.

When Chubbuck arrived on scene, he found that Lawson had allegedly left in his car. When Chubbuck spoke with the victim, she claimed that the pair had argued over deleted text messages, and when Lawson became angry, he allegedly threw a bicycle against the wall, then reportedly threw a coffee cup against the door.

The victim stated she went outside, and Lawson allegedly followed her and grabbed her by the head and slammed her head into a sliding glass door.

After taking the witness' report, Chubbuck was able to track down Lawson, who was placed under arrest.

Lawson was on probation when he was arrested and has been charged with a Class C felony, which is punishable by up to five years in prison or up to a $10,000 fine.

As part of his bail agreement, Lawson is not to use or possess drugs, alcohol or weapons, and was ordered not to return to the residence in Bremen. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.
