Nancy-Linn Nellis, obituary
STOCKTON SPRINGS — Nancy-Linn Nellis, 81, died April 18, 2015, at her home in Stockton Springs, where she was under hospice care. She was born July 23, 1933, in Staten Island, N.Y., the daughter of the late Richard and Laura (Whitford) Nellis.
She was employed at Wood-Mode, Kreamer; Hallmark Industries, McClure; and Institutional Associates, Kreamer. She founded and was the executive director of Subcontractor Construction Association in Pennsylvania, was a licensed business brokerage agent in the same state and a licensed realtor in both Pennsylvania and Iowa. She ran several bed-and-breakfasts, including the Blue Lion Inn in Selinsgrove, Pa., Watchtide By The Sea, in both Calais and Searsport, and Lilac Place in Stockton Springs.
Nancy-Linn chaired the Waldo County Marketing Association (1998-2005) and was instrumental in starting Searsport's Fling Into Fall to extend the season with activities for the bed-and-breakfasts of the town. During the 11 years that Nancy-Linn owned Watchtide, she opened Angels to Antiques Gift Shop in the barn, where she sold antiques and items that she made, including special chocolate spreads and, of course, angels.
She was an avid supporter of nature and wildlife and keeping Maine pristine and beautiful. Nancy-Linn was a strong advocate of equal rights for all and especially for women. She lived life to its fullest with vigor, conviction and love.
Known to many of her longtime friends as Tiger, one of her favorite self-descriptions was "I did it my way!"
Surviving are two grandchildren, Wolfgang Downs of Sunbury, Pa., and Laura Endo of Plymouth, N.H.; a niece, Priscilla Royall of Ambler, Pa.; and a nephew, Kenneth Nellis of Washington, D.C.
Nancy-Linn was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Elliott; her two siblings, Doris Wing and Richard Nellis Jr.; and her three children, Charles Downs III, Linn Endo and Fonda Leah Shaffer.
