Multiple events, fundraisers in Waldo County recognize youth homelessness
November is National Homeless Children and Youth Awareness Month. In Waldo County, But Still I Am One is partnering with the Maine Statewide Youth Action Board, and the Searsport District Middle High School Homeless Students’ Fund to host several events from November 1-19. These efforts aim to raise awareness and funds for homeless youth in Waldo County.
All November, the Belfast Free Library is displaying essays, poems and artwork submitted by local high school students on the experience of being homeless and potential local solutions in the Abbott Room.
November 15: Panel Discussion and 3 cash awards for the Creative Arts Challenge on view in the Abbott Room beginning at 3:30. Enjoy snacks and hear from our youth, service providers, and the Maine Statewide Youth Action Board.
November 14, Mount View High School is hosting an Empty Bowl Supper from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the school.
And starting November 1, local restaurants across the county are participating in “Dine To Donate” events, including Ridgetop Restaurant (11/1), Hey Sailor (11/8), Nautilus Seafood and Grill (11/ 9), Bell the Cat (11/10), Darby’s Restaurant (11/14), and Anglers Restaurant (11/19) where each are contributing part of the days’ revenues to help youth experiencing homelessness in Waldo County.
"We encourage the community to support these events and join in the discussion at the Belfast Free Library Abbott Room on Friday, 11/15, after school (3:30 pm)," said a news release. "Your support can make a difference."
