Modern mantra music performed in Rockport, April 28

ROCKPORT — Musical duo Darshan Music is bringing their harmonious chants and drumbeats to Rockport on Sunday, April 28. Darshan Music’s take on the ancient practice of kirtan – simple call-and-response mantras to music – offers participants the benefits of yoga or meditation.

Since they combined forces in 2017, Darshan Music members Carla Renzi (drums) and Justin Maseychik (harmonium) have been performing their modern interpretation of this genre of Bangla song at yoga studios, indoor and outdoor venues across the country. They regularly perform in Belfast, Rockport and Damariscotta, and are scheduled to play at Coastal Mountain Land Trust’s Arts on the Hill this summer.

Participants report feeling at ease and sleeping well after a session, according to Amanda Dwelley, in a news release.

“When people come together to sing and chant, it creates a vibration you can feel after you leave. I leave humming, relaxed, and notice more around me” said one participant. Following performances at The Peace Gallery in Damariscotta, another said, “Darshan’s two previous performances here were remarkable. Members and guests alike reported a sense of wellbeing and community.”

The even will be inside at 295 Beech Hill Road in Rockport, April 28, from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Cash donations are accepted though not required.

“Whether you're a practitioner or curious newcomer, everyone is welcome to get comfortable (sitting or lying down), sing along, or simply listen,” said Dwelley. “The emphasis of any performance is harmony and connection.”
