ROCKLAND — A Warren man who was arrested by police July 9 for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman remains at the Knox County Jail.

Jerome J. Cushing, 37, was charged by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office with gross sexual assault and two counts of domestic violence assault.

He made his initial appearance before Judge Susan Sparaco in Knox County Unified Court July 11. At the hearing, his bail was set at $1,500 cash.

According to the affidavit filed in Knox County Unified Court by Sgt. John Palmer, the victim told police that Cushing has allegedly assaulted her on numerous occasions.

The victim said that Cushing sexually assaulted her in June because she had not returned his phone calls and text messages.

She also reported another recent assault, causing bruising on her arm.

Cushing denied the assault allegations and claimed that the woman’s brusing was caused when she helped him work underneath his car.

The victim told police that Cushing had threatened her if she ever obtained a protection order against him.

Cushing declined to take a polygraph examination, according to the affidavit.

He is scheduled to appear in court again Aug. 16.
