MaineHealth Pen Bay and Waldo hospitals name director of communications and public affairs
MaineHealth has promoted from within to fulfill the role of director of communications and public affairs assigned to MaineHealth Pen Bay and MaineHealth Waldo hospitals.
Megan Day, who has worked at the health system for the past 11 years, will oversee internal and external communications for the community health system, including media relations, social media and internal newsletters.
Day joined MaineHealth 11 years ago, working with the Community Health team at MaineHealth Pen Bay and MaineHealth Waldo hospitals, and moved over to the communications and public affairs team in 2021.
More recently, Day stepped into the interim role of communications and public affairs director following the departure last fall of Art Durity, who left to take on a new role at another health care organization.
“In Megan we get a seasoned communications leader who knows our communities. She has spent her entire career telling the stories of the people of Knox and Waldo counties,” said Denise Needham, president of MaineHealth Pen Bay and MaineHealth Waldo hospitals, in a news release.
Day holds a bachelor’s degree in English and creative writing from Bates College in Lewiston. She began her career as a reporter with the Courier Publications in Belfast and later worked at Camden National Corporation in Camden as a communications specialist.
“I’m excited to be able to support an organization like MaineHealth, with its vision of working together so our communities are the healthiest in America on behalf of my hometown,” said Day. “We have a great story to tell about all the good work being done on behalf of our patients and the wider community.”
