Maine Resists rallies in Augusta with a No Kings protest
A No Kings protest was held Feb. 17 at the Capitol in Augusta, with approximately 300 gathering in the cold and strong biting wind, "to mark Presidents’ Day at the State House in Augusta by demonstrating against the Trump administration, as well as Elon Musk and his role in it," said one of the protesters, Anita Brosius-Scott, of Camden.
The protest was to, "bring Mainers together in solidarity against the blatant abuse of power and dissolution of checks and balances taking place at the federal level," according to organizers.
Maine Resists secured a permit for a 'No Kings' protest.
"At one point a huge cheer coursed through the crowd like someone very famous had been spotted," said Brosius-Scott. "Above, a bald eagle soared over the crowd, adding an exclamation point to calls for renewed democracy."
