Maine Coast Storm ice hockey teams eye state tournaments
ROCKPORT — The Maine Coast Storm youth ice hockey teams are looking to sweeten their seasons over the coming days as they enter the MEAHA state tournaments.
The Storm 14U tier III team heads to their state tournament February 25-27 and will have home ice advantage as hosts of the tournament at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport.
Storm will face off again Maine Gladiators Silver, Central Maine Hornets, Brewer, Biddeford and Maine Moose. The 14U squad enters the tournament as the fourth seed sporting a regular season record of 4-8.
The 14U team includes Quinn Hoppin, Barlow Marshall, Jace Young, Harper Lilly, Flynn Lilly, Alden Howard, Bowden Trzaska, Kylian Babik and Bryson Hise. The team is coached by Andrew Marshall, Fred Lilly, Bo Hoppin and Mylan Babik.
Storm’s 12U tier III team also has the potential to make it to their state tournament but will face a play-in game on February 27 against the Central Maine Hornets at the Maine Ice Vault in Augusta. The winner of that game will move on to the 12U state tournament being hosted by Maine Jr. Black Bears at Sawyer Arena in Bangor March 4-6.
The 12U team sports a record of 2-10 this season. Members of the team are Brady Winslow, Cole Nowell, August Wells, Hudson Wallace, Matyas Babik, Isla Hoppin, Eli Lavi, Ewan Howard, Oscar Ives, Whitney Pearson and Landon Hotchkin. The team is coached by Bart Hotchkin, Bo Hoppin and Mylan Babik.
The Storm 10U tier IV team qualified for their state tournament March 4-6 which is also being hosted by the Storm at the Midcoast Recreation Center. The 10U team has seen much success this season with a regular season record of 15-1-1 and recently came in second place in the MEAHA 10U Tier IV North Division tournament.
The team is seeded fourth and will face off against Presque Isle, Brewer White and Casco Bay Blackhawks in pool play. Additional teams in the tournament are the Maine Gladiators (Red, Gray & Black) and Brewer Black.
The Storm 10U team includes Cael Howard, Orin Leach, Quinn Bergan, Sam Smith, Eason Leblanc, Campbell McCarthy, Jaxson Long, Eli Gates, Spencer Hilchey, Tayler Benner, Landyn Rego, Devon Kuplinski, JD Corbett and Wyatt Morse. The team is coached by Brian McCarthy, Paul Kuplinski, Ryan Gates and Josh Leach.
