CAMDEN — Quarry Hill welcomes local author Mac Smith on Monday, April 1, at 1:30 p.m. Smith will share stories from the six Maine history books he has penned, each exploring and preserving unique chapters of this state’s history, including tales from Camden and the surrounding area.

Smith’s book titles include Mainers on the Titanic; Peyton Place Comes Home to Maine: The Making of the Iconic Film; Maine’s Hail to the Chief: A History of Presidential Visits to the Pine Tree State; Siege at the Statehouse; Disaster at Mt. Desert Ferry; and Plain Madeleine: Mrs. John Jacob Astor in Bar Harbor. All his books are published by Down East Books. Copies of his books will be available for purchase and signing at this event.

Quarry Hill’s long-standing enrichment programs were sidelined in 2020 at the start of the COVID pandemic. According to a news release, newly hired Program and Marketing coordinator Judy Landry is pleased to re-introduce Quarry Hill residents and the greater local community to a variety of programming designed to enhance one’s health and vitality after age 50.

“It’s time to come out of the dark ages of COVID and delve into a new era of enlightenment,” said Landry. “We hope these programs pique your interest and further enrich your active lifestyles.”

Mac Smith’s presentation is free of charge and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Advance registration is required. To sign up, please call Quarry Hill at 301-6116 or email qhinfo@mainehealth.org.
