‘Looking Forward By Looking Back’ exhibit, reception with Maine Photographic Workshops founder and former faculty

    Looking Forward By Looking Back, a photographic exhibition will open on Thursday, August 17, between 4 and 9 p.m., in Rockport‘s Union Hall. The exhibition covers The Maine Photographic Workshops history in creative storytelling, image-making and education.

    What began in 1973 as a photography summer school, soon added a film school, became a year round international conservatory attracting a world famous faculty and students. More than 60,000 of the world’s creative professional and amateurs have attended one-week master classes, month-long workshops and year-long resident programs here.

    Today, Maine Media continues as a graduate school and college.

    On Aug. 17, many of the school’s original faculty and alumni will be on hand to help The Workshops’ celebrate its 50th summer in Rockport. A visual presentation will begin at 8 p.m. with a toast to the future . . . and the past.

    On Saturday, Aug. 19, Workshops founder, David H, Lyman, will deliver an illustrated lecture covering the school’s history. The talk will take place in Union Hall, at 2 p.m. with ample time to view the exhibition and ask questions.

    This talk is part of the Rockport Library Lecture series.
