Lois C. Silloway, obituary
WARREN — Lois C. Silloway, 92, of Warren, passed away peacefully at Windward Gardens in Camden on September 9, 2024. Lois was born on February 28, 1932, in a country farmhouse in Monroe, Maine to parents Ernest Cookson and Elzada (Nickerson) Hanson.
Lois grew up in Maine and graduated from Camden High School in 1950. She then went on to attend the University of Maine at Orono for a year before finishing her schooling at Central Maine General in 1954 where she earned her nursing degree.
Lois worked in a variety of hospitals throughout the states, including Rhode Island, California, and Maine. On her cross-country road trip home from California with her friends to Franklin MA, she met her future husband, Richard E. Silloway. They married on October 26, 1957, in Franklin, Massachusetts.
Richard, Lois, and their growing family moved to Camden, Maine in 1961, before making their final home in Warren in July of 1964. Lois and Richard, became poultry farmers and raised laying hens on contract, collecting hundreds of eggs 3 times a day. She enjoyed being a homemaker, making pickles, canning vegetables, outside picnics, and swimming in the St. George River. Winters were for sewing garments, crib quilts, teddy bears, art classes and all kinds of craft and needle work.
Lois was an active member of Second Congregational Church of Warren for 40 years, where she was in the Ladies Circle and a founding member of the Caring and Sharing Sisters. She was a charter member of the Pilgrim Community Church, a member of the Warren Evening Extension, Pine Tree Quilters Guild, the “Wednesday Night” group, and the Good Intention Quilters.
Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard; and an infant son, Brian Thomas; infant grandson Matthew Alan; and sister Shirley Hall and husband Gilbert.
She is survived by 3 children, Brenda Silloway Gammon (Irven), Linda Silloway Lent (Kenneth), and Stephen Silloway; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for April 12, 2025, at 2 p.m., at the Warren Second Congregational Church on Main Street followed by a reception. A private family burial was held at the Cushing Cemetery in Warren.
Lois loved purple; the family would love to see people wear a splash of purple at the memorial service.
