Local skiers exceled in alpine meets this winter

Local high school alpine skiers had a very successful winter this season with an abundance of high-ranking finishes throughout the season. 

Below is a recap of how they performed throughout the season beginning in January and concluding with the two-day state championships in mid-February. 

Jan. 10: KVAC Meet at Lost Valley

Of the four teams competing, Camden Hills placed first with 759 points in the girls division and fourth in the boys division with 755 points. 

Individual results in the girls division: Lily Stowe placed fourth (1:14.74), Maggie Metzler 11th (1:19.84), Greer LaFiura 14th (1:25.20), Piper Urey 16th (1:26.24), Sophia Howell 21st (1:29.20), Marlie Berard 23rd (1:33.34), Ava Tobias 27th (1:37.51) and Victoria Wholers 29th (1:48.37). 

Individual results in the boys division: Brit LaFiura placed seventh (1:10.46), Roger Huguet ninth (1:11.52), March Huguet 14th (1:12.35), Ryan Southworth 19th (1:15.33), Ryan Anderson 26th (1:24.01) and Thomas Mitchell 36th (1:35.39). 

Jan. 22: Pakulski Slalom at Kent’s Hill

Individual results in the boys division: Jett Lindelof placed fifth (56.07), Brit LaFiura sixth (56.40), Roger Huget 11th (58.24), Marc Huget 22nd (1:00.93), Ryan Southworth 26th (1:02.58), Thomas Mitchell 45th (1:10.56) and Ryan Anderson 63rd (1:43.30). 

Individual results in the girls division: Zola Roberts placed fourth (1:03.53), Maggie Metzler 12th (1:08.34), Greer LaFiura 15th (1:09.40), Ava Tobias 40th (1:22.90), Tegwyn Hearst 41st (1:23.86), Piper Urey 43rd (1:24.49) and Victoria Wohlers 50th (1:34.08). 

Feb. 4: KVAC Meet at Black Mountain

Individual results in the girls division: Lily Stowe placed 17th (1:17.92), Piper Urey 20th (1:18.57), Maggie Metzler 22nd (1:19.37), Abby Williams 24th (1:19.51), Greer LaFiura 37th (1:24.07), Marlie Berard 38th (1:24.29), Ava Tobias 42nd (1:25.50), Tegwyn Hearst 55th (1:31.06) and Victoria Wohlers 63rd (1:39.45).

Individual results in the boys division: Jett Lindelof placed second (1:10.46), Marc Huguet fifth (1:12.40), Birt LaFiura 13th (1:15.83), Ryan Southworth 15th (1:17.72), Ryan Andersen 36th (1:22.02) and Thomas Mitchell 62nd (1:36.92). 

Feb. 9: KVAC Championships Day 1, Giant Slalom

Camden Hills placed second of 14 teams in the girls division with 767 points, while the boys placed sixth of 10 teams with 724 points. 

Individual results in the girls division: Zola Roberts placed first (1:59.78), Lily Stowe fifth (2:02.97), Piper Urey 12th (2:07.35), Maggie Metzler 19th (2:10.01), Abigail Williams 24th (2:12.62), Greer LaFiura 29th (2:18.21), Marlie Berard 32nd (2:21.14) and Sofia Howell 57th (3:05.54). 

Individual results in the boys division: Roger Huguet placed third (1:56.09), Marc Huguet fourth (1:57.42), Ryan Southworth 31st (2:18.68), Thomas Mitchell 46th (2:38.22), Brit LaFiura 49th (2:42.96) and Ryan Andersen 58th (3:38.23). 

Feb. 12: KVAC Championships Day 2, Slalom

Camden Hills placed second of 13 teams in the girls division with 752 points, while the boys placed fourth of 10 teams with 750 points. 

Individual results in the girls division: Zola Roberts placed sixth (1:29.68), Abigail Williams 13th (1:32.23), Maggie Metzler 18th (1:34.84), Greer LaFiura 26th (1:39.35), Sofia Howell 34th (1:44.88), Marlie Berard 44th (1:49.66) and Ava Tobias 51st (1:55.96). 

Individual results in the boys division: Roger Huguet seventh (1:26.38), Marc Huguet 13th (1:31.08), Brit LaFiura 19th (1:34.15), Ryan Southworth 21st (1:34.54), Oliver Castle 34th (1:40.57), Ryan Andersen 41st (1:43.51) and Thomas Mitchell 49th (1:50.91). 

Feb. 17: State Championships Day 1, Giant Slalom

Camden Hills placed fifth of 24 teams in the girls division with 707 points while the boys placed ninth of 21 teams with 656 points. Islesboro placed 19th of 21 teams in the boys division with 198 points. 

Individual results in the girls division: Piper Urey placed 13th (1:55.61), Lily Stowe 19th (1:58.57), Maggie Metzler 22nd (1:59.65), Greer LaFiura 43rd (2:09.97) and Sofia Howell 57th (2:13.66). 

Individual results in the boys division: Brit LaFiura placed 18th (1:53.46), Ryan Southworth 23rd (1:57.20), Oliver Castle 41st (2:00.72) and Thomas Mitchell 66th (2:18.21). 

Feb. 18: State Championships Day 2, Slalom

Camden Hills placed eighth of 24 teams with 531 points on the second day for a total of 1,238 points in the girls division. In the boys division, Camden Hills placed seventh of 21 teams with 657 points on the second day for a total of 1,313 points. Islesboro did not tally points on the second day and thus finished 21st overall. 

Individual results in the girls division: Lily Stowe placed 12th (55.25), Sofia Howell 25th (1:04.77) and Marlie Berard 35th (1:09.92). 

Individual results in the boys division: Brit LaFiura placed 10th (48.89), Ryan Southworth 23rd (54.24), Oliver Castle 52nd (1:10.48) and Thomas Mitchell 62nd (1:21.45).
