Lincolnville honors the fallen with impromptu ceremony on Memorial Day
The torrential rainfall of Monday morning washed out a number of Memorial Day services in the Midcoast. A service was held Monday morning at the American Legion in Camden, but Lincolnville decided it didn’t want to abandon all its traditions, and as the sun broke through the clouds at 3:30 p.m., the firefighters of the Lincolnville Volunteer Fire Department marched down Main Street, followed by their trucks, to Veteran’s Park, where the Honor Guard and a collection of townspeople were waiting.
As the Lincolnville Firefighters lined up facing the Honor Roll, the wreath was laid, and the flag was lowered to half staff. The moment was silent, and immensely powerful.
As the brief ceremony broke up, there were a lot of hugs and handshakes among the crowd.
Afterward, the Guard traveled to Lincolnville Beach, where another wreath was tossed off Frohock bridge, in memory of all those lost at sea.
We are stronger when we come together. When we remember.
