Lincolnville Historical Society talk: The Battle of Malvern Hill and a soldier from Midcoast Maine
LINCOLNVILLE — Lincolnville Historical Society will hold its next talk Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. “The Battle of Malvern Hill, July 1, 1862, and the story of an obscure Maine Soldier from Mid Coast Maine" presented by Dr. David Urquia.
The story focuses around two brothers from Lincolnville, Benjamin and Andrew Pottle. Explore the lives and nature of a collection of common Civil War soldiers, battles where they fought, and their fate.
Dr. Urquia is a retired Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, with 35 years of practice experience, specializing in adult spinal surgery. His non-medical academic passion is Civil War history, focused on the 1864 Virginia theater (Overland and Petersburg campaigns), and specifically the fate of Maine soldiers in Virginia.
The LHS is located at 33 Beach Road in Lincolnville. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the museum will be open upstairs if you would like to look around prior to the talk. The event is free, but donations are always accepted.
