LINCOLNVILLE — Law enforcement continues to investigate the death of a person whose body was discovered on the shoreline just north of Lincolnville beach, according to Waldo County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Cody Laite. 

The body was discovered Monday June 3, around 3:30 p.m., by passersby who called Waldo County Communications to notify the proper authorities. 

According to Laite, it appears the body floated in from the ocean, though a cause of death has yet to be determined. The body is with the medical examiner’s office in Augusta. 

Authorities are not yet releasing the identity of the decedent. 

During the investigation, the WSO worked with the Maine State Police and the Forest Service, who provided their helicopter to aid in the investigation. 

Laite declined to discuss the condition of the body when it was found.
