Individuals involved are identified, names withheld pending DA review

Knox County Sheriff’s Office seize firearms believed used in March 15 shooting incidents

    On Friday, March 23, the Knox County Sheriff's Office and the Maine Warden Service followed up leads in the shooting incidents that took place in Cushing, Friendship, and Waldoboro during the early morning hours of March 15. Investigators "obtained crucial evidence and leads as to the identities of the suspects," according to the Knox County SO.

    Saturday night, March 24, the Sheriff's Office distributed a news release updating the public about the investigation to "help relieve concerns in the area of random shots fired complaints; in particular, the ones at two residents in Friendship," wrote Chief Deputy Tim Carroll. "The individuals involved have been identified by law enforcement and we feel these were isolated incidents and the public should feel safer with the information we have obtained. Names will be released at the appropriate time, but until then, trust that we feel confident that no one is in particular further danger related to these complaints."

    The Sheriff's Office reported that Waldoboro Police, Maine Warden Service and the SO have worked to obtain information and evidence over the last week to apprehend the individuals and ensure the safety of the residents in the area of Cushing, Friendship and Waldoboro.

    The multiple agency investigation "obtained crucial evidence and leads as to the identities of the suspects," the SO reported. "On Friday, The Maine Warden Service and the Knox County Sheriff's Office followed up the most recent information which led to the identities of the individuals involved. Firearms and evidence were seized. Names are being withheld pending review by the District Attorney's Office for the appropriate charges."

    On March 15, the Knox County SO received complaints of shots fired in the area of homes during the early morning hours in the towns of Friendship and Cushing. Residents were advised to lock their vehicles when unattended and to lock their homes when unattended or sleeping.
