Knox County Grand Jury indictments
ROCKLAND — The Knox County grand jury handed down indictments Dec. 20, and they represented eight counts against four defendants, including an inmate at the Maine State Prison. An indictment does not imply guilt.
David H. Atwood, 47, of Warren, two counts of aggravated assault, domestic violence aggravated assault and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs on July 28.
According to the police affidavit filed in Knox County Unified Court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, they were notified of the attack by Thomaston police after one of the two victims reported the incident. The male victim told police he had gone to a residence in Warren after he received a call from a friend that she was being abused by Atwood and needed assistance to move out to the home with her children.
When the man arrived at the residence, Atwood allegedly struck him in the head multiple times with a 36-inch wooden dowel and also tried to choke him from behind.
The victim said he was able to flee the scene after the alleged attack. He was then treated at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for his injuries, according the police affidavit.
The second victim, a female, reported to police that Atwood had accused her of seeing someone else and they got into an argument. She said that Atwood grabbed her right index finger, twisted and pulled on it, and eventually cause the tip of her finger to come loose. The victim had a recent infection in the same finger, and now there was a possibility that the attack caused permanent disfigurement and subsequent amputation, according to the court document.
Police also found Suboxone strips inside Atwood’s wallet and he did not have an active prescription for the drug.
Other indictments included:
Lance Huff, 40, of Spruce Head, possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm near a dwelling on Sept. 10 in Appleton. Huff was previously convicted of aggravated criminal trespass on Sept. 8, 2010 in Kennebec Superior Court.
Adelia R. Leonard, 37, of Rockport, felony theft at Walmart on June 25 in Thomaston for alleging stealing merchandise including a keyboard, mouse and router. According to the indictment, Leonard was convicted of theft on March, 11, 2011 in Penobscot County Superior Court and on Dec. 11, 2007 in Lincoln County Superior Court.
Justin David Ryan, 44, of the Maine State Prison in Warren, trafficking in prison contraband (Suboxone) on April 3.
