ROCKLAND — Karlene R. Farnsworth, 92, died peacefully at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine, on Saturday, February 17, 2018. She was surrounded by loving family as she passed away.

Karlene was born March 5, 1925 in Ogden, Utah to Harry M. Kammeyer and Florence Bitton Kammeyer. She attended Ogden High School and married William R. Swenson in 1943. He was killed in action over Okinawa in 1945. In 1948, she married Rueben J. (Joe) Farnsworth and together they raised their family in Ogden, Utah. When Joe retired in 1985, they moved to his childhood home, St. George, Utah, where they enjoyed golfing and many cherished friendships. After he died in 2007, she moved to Mid-Coast Maine to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Throughout her life, she was devoted to friends and family. As a child she loved baseball, fishing with friends, and snow skiing in the beautiful mountains of Utah. She and her husband, Joe, enjoyed traveling to Japan, England, and excursions with Joe's sisters to locations in the western United States and Hawaii. She once wrote, "In my life I have experienced just about everything. Experience is quite a good teacher. Above all I have been blessed with a good marriage, healthy children, and many, many wonderful friends." She said she believed that life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it. Although she didn't subscribe to any particular Christian denomination, she believed that all things come from God and that nothing in life can separate us from the love of God.

She is survived by two daughters and their families: Sandra Elizabeth Berkenbile, her husband Joseph Berkenbile of Warren, Maine and their two children, Adam Berkenbile and Brandon Berkenbile; Julianne Farnsworth Dorey, her husband Michael Scott Dorey of Waldoboro, Maine and their three children, Erin Elise Joelle Dorey, McKinley Megan Riley Dorey, great granddaughter Adeline Farnsworth Dorey, and Kienan Michael Duncan Dorey. Her son, Robin Joel Farnsworth, died in 2007 and is survived by her daughter-in-law Janet Avery.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, ME., 11:00 a.m., March 18th, 2018.
