Jason A. Baird, obituary

Jason A. Baird, 26, of Oberlin, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Cleveland MetroHealth Hospital following injuries sustained in a bicycle and auto accident.

Jason was born in Fort Knox, Ky., on February 24, 1991, to Michael D. Baird of Oberlin and Chanin Rene (nee Sidenstricker) Baird Dereksen of Lenexa, Kansas. He graduated from the Belfast Area High School in Belfast, Maine, and then attended the University of Northern Colorado.

Jason was employed as the baker at Blue Rooster Bakehouse in Oberlin and had been employed by the D. P. Dough in Greeley, Colo.

He was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6273 in Oberlin, and had been president of the Cool Kid Club.

A caring and giving person, Jason and his family are proud that his legacy continues through being an organ donor.

Jason is survived by his mother, Rene, and Robert Dereksen of Lenexa, Kan.; his father Michael D. and Diane Baird, of Oberlin; sisters Myresa A. Jones, of Belfast, Maine, and Alice M. Baird, of Oberlin; brothers David P. (Mariah Rowh) Sukel, of Grafton; Matthew K. Dereksen, of Lenexa, Kan; Brandon L. Dereksen, of Lenexa, Kan.;and Alexander B. Weed, of Muldraugh, Ky.; maternal grandparents, Don and Barbara Sidenstricker, of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Ginger Dereksen, of Louisville, Ky.; paternal grandparents Linda Gibbs, of Searsmont, Maine, Judith Johns, of Elyria, and Stanley and Christie Lanphier, of Belfast, Maine; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by brothers Alexander Sukel in 1997, and Tommy Dereksen in 2008; and paternal grandfathers, Arthur Gibbs and Dennis Johns.

The family welcomes friends and relatives to join them at a family gathering to Celebrate Jason's life on Saturday November 11 at the Searsmont Community Hall, Searsmont Maine at 2 pm. Burial will be held privately at Pine Grove Annex Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
