Ice delivery truck’s crash into car in Lincolnville causes minor injuries

LINCOLNVILLE — An ice delivery truck coming around a corner on Route 1 in Lincolnville Thursday morning was unable to stop in time to avoid a crash, sending a four-door sedan skidding sideways off the road and into a ditch.
Arthur Archie, 22, of Glenburn, was driving a 2014 Freightliner ice truck south on Route 1 around 6:45 a.m. when he came upon a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, which was stopped in the road to make a left turn, according to Deputy Wiley McVety. The car was turning in the vicinity of Steel Road.
Archie told the officer he was carrying a full load of ice and was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the Oldsmobile, which was about 150 yards ahead of him.
"Mr. Archie said he tried to go around the vehicle on the left, because there was a ditch on the right," said McVety. "He was hoping the driver would see him coming and stay put, but the driver of the car continued to turn and Archie crashed into him, though it was at a slower speed."
The driver of the Oldsmobile was 27-year-old Stephen Cassidy of Walpole, Mass. His passenger was Keith Demers, 41, of Marlborough, Mass.
Cassidy sustained a cut to his forehead, from hitting the steering wheel, and both men complained of general pain. McVety said both men were wearing seat belts and were treated at the scene by a North East Mobile Health ambulance crew.
Archie was not injured in the crash that pushed the Oldsmobile sideways off the road and into a tree on the passenger side.
The Oldsmobile sustained major rear-end damage, and had to be towed from the scene by Camden Exxon. The Freightliner came away with a broken front fender, dented bumper and a broken headlight, but was able to be driven from the scene to continue on its delivery route, according to McVety.
