WASHINGTON — The Gibbs Library is pleased to present a two-month exhibit of hooked rugs, by Washington resident Kathy Yoder. The exhibit will open on May 5 and run through July 5.

Yoder has been hooking rugs for the past 34 years. She hooks in the traditional style using strips of wool that she cuts by hand with scissors. Kathy's rugs are her own designs. She hand draws the designs onto a backing of Scottish linen. The rugs are made of 100 percent wool which is hand colored using both commercial and natural dyes. The themes of Yoder's pieces are of a folk art style.

She draws inspiration from her time growing up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Kathy and her husband moved to Maine about seven years ago. She enjoys doing rugs of the beautiful Maine coast and countryside.

    Gibbs Library hours are Monday 4-7 p.m., Tuesday 9 a.m. — noon and 4-7 p.m., Thursday 3-6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. — 3 p.m., and Sunday 2-5 p.m. FMI call 207-845-2663.
