Hartley George Beverage, Sr., obituary

WARREN — Hartley George Beverage, Sr., 90, formerly of Hope and Union, passed away on May 20, 2018 at Woodlands Memory Center in Rockland.  Born on May 28, 1927 in Camden, he was the son of Marjorie and Elroy Beverage, Sr.  Hartley grew up and attended school in Hope, married Florence Pearse on June 2, 1945, and raised five children.  

During his working career, he was employed at a number of jobs including driving a truck, raising vegetables for local canneries, and owning and operating a poultry farm.  In 1989, he retired as a weaver from the Knox Woolen Mill.  After retirement, he worked several years at Shaw’s in Rockland.

Through the years, he enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, hunting, bowling, and going on several bus tours with his wife.

Hartley was a past master of the Pioneer Grange in Union, past master of the Union Masonic Lodge #31, former member of the Union Fire Department and the Union Senior Citizens.  He was also a member of Peoples United Methodist Church in Union.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Woodlands and Beacon Hospice for their excellent care and making Hartley feel at home during his stay there. 

Surviving is his wife of 72, years, Florence Beverage of Warren; daughter, Judith Stimpson and her husband, Bruce of Topsham; four sons, Kenneth Beverage and his wife, Sara of Leesburg, FL; Hartley G. Beverage, Jr. of China; James Beverage and his wife, Glenda of Jefferson; Bradley Beverage and his wife, Anne of Warren; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, three sisters, Estelle Libby of Appleton; Edith Brown of Camden; Alma Tilley of Old Town, FL.  He was predeceased by one grandson, a brother, Elroy Beverage, Jr. and sister, Dorothy Brownell.

A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Peoples United Methodist Church in Union with the Rev. Elizabeth Bailey-Mitchell and the Rev. George Hodgkins co-officiating.  Interment with a Masonic service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on May 29 at Hope Grove Cemetery.
