Gonads and Gourmet: Unveiling Scallop’s Plump Treasures and Bounty Potential

    ROCKPORT — Join marine scientist Phoebe Jekielek for a presentation on her work with Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership about the wild harvest and scallop farming industries in Maine, Thursday, Feb. 15, at 86 Pascal Ave, Rockport. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Presentation is at 6 p.m., followed by a Q & A.

    Jekielek will give an overview of what makes scallops so special and discuss recent work to assess biological differences between wild and farmed scallops from research happening at Hurricane Island’s experimental farm and collaborations with other Pen Bay scallop farms.

    She will also speak about a recent coast-wide effort between organizations, fishermen and farmers to understand scallop larval distribution in Maine.
