Gerald A. Spaulding, obituary
SPRUCE HEAD — Gerald A. Spaulding, 68, died peacefully, with his family at his side, Friday, January 3, 2025 following a courageous battle with lung disease.
Born in Rockland, September 7, 1956, he was the son of Philip and Janet Carter Spaulding. Educated locally, Gerry was a 1974 graduate of Rockland District High School. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy immediately following high school, Gerry served honorably for 20 years, being promoted to an E5 and working as a Jet Engine Mechanic. His Navy career afforded he and his family the opportunity to live in and see many different parts of the United States.
On September 16, 2000, Gerald married his best friend, Robin Yattaw. Together they have enjoyed many happy times and made many wonderful memories.
Following his Navy career, Gerry worked locally as a bus driver for the local school system. He always loved this job, meeting the kids, giving them candy, and being a part of their lives.
A proud veteran, Gerry was a member of the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion, Post No. 1 in Rockland. He also enjoyed membership at Beaver Lodge and enjoyed spending time with friends and family alike. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to go target shooting. In his younger years, he was active with the Boy Scouts, serving as a scout master for many years when his son was a scout, continuing with that organization in Rockland after his children were grown. Spending time with his family was his number one priority, and he cherished all of the times they spent together, especially cruises with his wife and mother-in-law. Trips to New Hampshire were other favorite pastimes.
When his illness limited his mobility, Gerry liked to keep busy. He could often be found working on complex Lego sets, many of which he insisted on gluing together.
He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Robin of Spruce Head; his mother, Janet Spaulding of Rockland; his children, Travis Spaulding and his wife Sharon of New Port News, Virginia, and Cassandra (Spaulding) Silvia of Thomaston; his siblings Jeff Spaulding and his wife Tracy of Brunswick, Gary Spaulding and his wife Theresa of Rockland; Jennifer O’Hara and her husband F.J. of Owls Head, Glen Spaulding and his wife Carolyn of Oregon; his mother-in-law, Karen Yattaw of Spruce Head; his sister-in-law Melanie Saunders and her husband Derek of Thomaston; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Philip Spaulding; father-in-law, Lewis R. Yattaw; sister-in-law Cheryl (Yattaw) Pease; and his brother Arnold Spaulding; as well as the mother of his children, Cheryl Spaulding.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Ocean View Cemetery, South Thomaston.
