Geneology talk with Dana Murch: “The Origins of Anthony Coombs, or DNA Doesn’t Lie but Family Genealogists Do”
BELFAST — Join the Belfast Free Library and the Wawenoc Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society on Wednesday, April 16, at 2 p.m., in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library, for a presentation by Belfast genealogist Dana Murch called “The Origins of Anthony Coombs, or DNA Doesn’t Lie but Family Genealogists Do.”
Anthony Coombs was a blacksmith who came to Wells in 1685. His descendants were among the earliest settlers of Islesboro and Vinalhaven in the 1770s and 1780s, and have been numerous in Belfast since the early 1800s. In this talk, Belfast genealogist and Coombs descendant Dana Murch will explore the many origin stories of Anthony Coombs and how a recent DNA study has separated fact from fiction.
This event is free and open to the public. It is an in-person event, with a Zoom option available. Please email spietryka@belfastlibrary.org to request the link.
The Wawenoc Chapter is the Belfast area’s chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society. It meets monthly on the third Wednesday at the Belfast Free Library. Genealogists of all abilities and skill-levels are encouraged to join.
