Evelyn E. (Alley) Lucas, obituary
ROCKLAND — The heavens gained a bright star on April 18, 2025 when Evelyn E. (Alley) Lucas passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in Rockland.
Evelyn was born on September 13, 1926 in Jonesport, the seventh of nine children born to Frank W. and Edna (Beal) Alley. Her childhood was spent on Whitehead Island Lighthouse in Saint George, where her father was a lighthouse keeper for the Coast Guard. She attended school in Rockland and Beals Island and spent summers with her family.
Evelyn met and married her first husband, William F. Gargan, when he was stationed at Whitehead Light during WWII. They had two sons, Daniel and Randy. During that time she worked at Holmes Packing and picked crab meat to help buy the property for their future home on Spruce Head Island.
Later while working the lunch counter at WT Grants in Rockland Evelyn met Harry Lucas and they married and spent many happy years living in Camden until his passing in 1977.
Evelyn loved her family and was happiest spending time with them. Her sense of humor and zest for life lifted everyone around her. She was an excellent cook, and every Christmas meant receiving a platter with pumpkin bread, cookies and handmade candies. Picnics were not complete without her chocolate cream pie. Evelyn also had a keen sense of style and decor. She loved creating a warm and beautiful home; very much a reflection of herself. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Achorn Cemetery at a future date.
Special thanks to the staff at Woodlands Memory Care in Rockland for the wonderful love and care they gave Evelyn. It was truly appreciated.
