Elinor J. Glidden Eaton, obituary
ROCKLAND — Elinor Jane Eaton was reunited with her husband, Milton Francis, and her son Gregory, on December 1, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at her home. Born in Waldoboro, February 14,1935, she was the daughter of Luther and Alice Maxcy Glidden.
Growing up in Thomaston, Mom attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston Academy. She began Nursing School, then moved on to working at the Knox Hospital. She met Milton at a dance and started a new chapter, marrying him on New Year's Day, 1955. Together they raised their four children on "Half Way Farm" in Rockport. Later on, they purchased a family camp on 7 Tree Pond, which they enjoyed all of their lives.
While raising her family she worked at Tolman Pond Store and then decided on a banking career. Holding many positions at Depositors Trust, which became Key Bank, she retired as Assistant Vice President.
Our Mom, Nanny, Grandmother, Ellie, Babe, Masey Day, enjoyed many hobbies over the years. Knitting, crocheting, cooking, gardening and traveling were just a few. There were many camping trips with family and friends, and after retiring, for more than 23 years, Mom and Dad spent winters in Florida, making many friends along the way.
Mom was extremely active, being accepted into the National Honor Society in High School, Rainbow Girls, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also volunteered at many local nursing homes, earning many certificates from Knox Center for Long Term Care.
Other than her parents, Elinor was predeceased by her husband, Milton; son Gregory; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Jameson and Pauline Nichols; nieces Sharon (Glidden) Moody and Michelle Jameson; and her beloved dogs, especially Angie.
She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Chuck Lachance of Cushing, Tamra and Larry Hooper of Greenville, Pamela and Frederick Gushee of Appleton; special nephew Michael Jameson and his wife, Donna of Friendship; six grandchildren, Heidi Taylor, Jimmy (Nicole) Hall, Jennifer Hall, Christopher (Anna) Hooper, Katie Hooper (partner Matthew), Jesse (Erika) Eaton; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan Taylor, Hannah Taylor, Gavin Anderson, Alex Hall, Benjamin Hall, Addison Hall, Hazel Hooper, Adeliade Hooper, Everett Eaton; great-great granddaughter Catherine Taylor; brothers, Richard (Christine) Glidden, David (Sharon) Glidden and sister in-law Oleitta MacKinnon (partner Royal Roach), and Bud (Carol) Jameson; and her long time special friend "like a Sister" Faustina Bryant.
The family would like to thank Thersea Durkee, Cheryl Adams and Karen Berry for their wonderful care. A special thanks to her granddaughter Jenn, for caring for our Mom so she could be home.
Friends and family are invited to visit Wednesday, December 18, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Spring interment will be at the Rockville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
