ROCKPORT — A driver heading east on Route 17 this morning, July 24, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, which resulted in his van going off the road, hitting a tree, and rolling over, according to Rockport police.

The crash took place just after 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of Meadow Street.

Police said Duane Bates, 29, of Windsor, was transported via North East Mobile Health Services to Penobscot Bay Medical Center with lacerations.

Rockport Fire Department also responded to the crash to help, as did Good Samaritans, who were on the road at the same time.
