Diana R. Gay, obituary
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vermont — Diana R. Gay, 95, died peacefully in her sleep May, 14, 2024, at the Residence at Quarry Hill.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 18, 1928. Diana was the daughter of Elizabeth Converse Roberts and Dr. Sumner Meade Roberts. Diana grew up in Dedham, Massachusetts, married Ebenezer Gay and moved to Hingham, Massachusetts while summering on Vinalhaven, Maine. Diana and Eben retired to Rockland, Maine, and she spent the final years of her life in South Burlington, Vermont.
Diana was educated at Beaver Country Day in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, graduated from Smith College, and got a Masters degree from Tufts University.
Diana married Ebenezer Gay in 1955. They lived in Hingham where their son, Ebenezer Roberts Gay, was born. Diana was a teacher at Derby Academy and director of Sunday School at the Old Ship Church.
In 1994 Diana and Eben moved to Rockland, Maine. Eben died in 2013. In 2022 Diana moved to South Burlington, Vermont to be near her son, Ebenezer R. Gay.
Diana was an active art quilter and member of Pine Tree Quilters.
Diana is survived by her son, Ebenezer R. Gay; and two grandchildren, Robert Gay and Patricia Gay.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Diana on Sunday, September 22, at 1 p.m., at the First Universalist Church, 345 Broadway St., Rockland ME.
