ROCKLAND — Dennis J. Williams, 58, died suddenly yet peacefully, Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Maine Medical Center with loved ones by his side.

Dennis was born May 1, 1962 in Rockland, the son of Dennis R. and Beverly Davis Williams. He was educated locally, and graduated from Rockland District High School, Class of 1980. Dennis was a member of the
Rockland Lodge of Elks. He greatly enjoyed the time he spent there, as well as the friendships made. Dennis’ favorite activities included horseshoes, bowling and pool. He was also a member of the Winslow-Holbrook
American Legion.

Although he never had one single ‘career’ to speak of, Dennis was hard worker his entire life. For many years he worked as a stern man with his good friend Darren and family, where he loved being on the water. Darren said Dennis was the best stern man he’d ever had; he was a ‘Legend!’

Dennis took great pleasure in riding ‘shot-gun’ with his best friend, Donny, in the tow-truck and could always be counted on to help out wherever he was needed. Donny said of Dennis, ‘he was a great listener; he had one of
those personalities that made him larger than life.’ Dennis drew anyone that knew him in, and he was extremely well loved by everyone. Even if you were mad at him, you couldn’t stay that way. He was a great secret keeper, and was never one to spread rumors or break a promise. Friendships were very important to Dennis.

Most important in his life was his family. He took great pride in his daughters and granddaughters. He loved nothing more than spending time with them.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Predeceased by his parents and his sister, Cindy Cookson; Dennis is survived by his daughters, Courtney Burr and her husband Eric of Rockland, and Chelsea Williams of Owls Head; two granddaughters, Kenley and Arabella; the mother of his daughters and longtime friend, Joyce Betts of Owls Head; his niece and nephew, Trisha Jones and her husband Harvey of Rockland, Trevor Cookson of Rockland; a brother-in-law Chris Cookson of Thomaston; two great-nieces, Janessa and Jaelynn; and more good friends than can be counted, including his best friend, Donny Blackman of Owls Head.

An Elks Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 21, 2020, at 3 p.m., at the Rockland Lodge of Elks, 210 Rankin Street, Rockland. The service will be held outside weather permitting. A pot-luck reception will be held, and all are invited to bring something to share.
