David William Vogel, obituary
WASHINGTON — David William Vogel passed away unexpectedly at his family home in Washington, Maine on April 9, 2025.
David was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on May 28, 1963 to Dorothy and Donald Vogel Sr. He was the beloved younger brother of Donald Jr., Lynn, and Suzanne. From the moment he was born, Suzanne deemed him “her baby” and she remained his biggest supporter and closest confidant till his untimely death.
David spent most of his life in Fairfield and Trumbull, Connecticut, retiring to his family’s cabin on Washington Pond this past spring.
After graduating summa cum laude from Sacred Heart University with a B.S. in legal administration, David worked as a paralegal and proofreader. His expertise was valued by his employers, which included Citizens Utilities, Tudor Investments, Franklin Templeton, and Equinor.
In 1995, David married Faith Bader and together they raised their daughter, Audrey. Although divorced, David and Faith remained close friends, sharing a love for singing and classical musical. Of his myriad achievements, David took the most pride in his daughter. Never has there been a more loving and devoted father. He was more than a father; he was her best friend.
David was a remarkably sentimental man. He loved all creatures, even using humane traps to catch the squirrels in his attic and researching the best parks in which to release them. He was contemplative and profoundly intelligent, often surprising even those who knew him best with his level of knowledge. He studied quantum physics in his free time, taught himself German, studied abroad in France, and loved both fiction and nonfiction literature.
Music was David’s greatest passion. In his youth, David was an esteemed boy soprano and toured Europe with his choir. As an adult, numerous Connecticut choirs were blessed with his voice. He was the tenor soloist at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Wilton for many years. Most recently, David sang with the Stamford Chorale alongside his daughter and son-in-law.
David will be remembered as a wise, honest, and humble man. While his esoterically dry sense of humor will be missed greatly by a select few, his kindness, sincerity, and warm heart will be missed by all who knew him. The world is a poorer place in his absence.
David was predeceased by his grandparents and his parents.
David is survived by his daughter, Audrey Vogel; his son-in-law, Graham Cook; his three siblings, Donald Jr., Suzanne Carey, and Lynn Vogel; his nephew Shaun Carey; and his cat Kimmie.
