David Jordan, obituary
THOMASTON — The body or shell through which we knew David C. Jordan wore out and he left this earth on April 25, 2015.
David was born in Lewiston and lived in South Paris for the first three years of his life, before moving to Rockland with his parents, Barrett and Madeline Jordan, owners of Burpee Funeral Home.
David attended and graduated from Rockland District High School. At an early age he worked for Vito Leo at his service station and also helped his father run the ambulance service and funeral home. After high school he worked for his uncle, who owned Jordan's Market, then worked at Martin Marietta Cement Plant in both the old and new plant. He was head of the packing and shipping departments until that company changed hands.
In 1975 David married Sandra Achorn. They made their home in Thomaston and lived there for 40 years. David and Sandra raised two children, Nicholas B. and Denise R. Jordan.
In 1983 David started his own business, David C. Jordan Floor Coverings. He did a lot of custom design with carpet and tile and retired in 2004 as he lost his sight from glaucoma.
David enjoyed hunting and fishing, music and was an extraordinary cook. David's favorite place to spend time was at his camp on Spencer Bay.
David was predeceased by his father, Barrett M. Jordan, whom he cared for until his passing in 2003; and his mother, Madeline, who he tried to watch over until her passing in 2011.
David was loved and respected by his wife, Sandi; his son, Nicholas, grandchildren, Owen, Abby, Emma and their mother, Calah Whitney; his daughter, Denise, her husband, Jessie Johnson (whom David admired), and grandson, Samuel. David was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He referred to Nicholas as Young Son or his young bull, and his daughter Denise as his little Maynard. He will continue to guard them throughout their lives, as a father and daddy.
Family was very important to David and he was blessed to share his life with Harold, Myra, Mark, Auntie Sophie and Harold Sr.; his cousins, Dotty, Fred, Ralph and their families; Terri, Annette, Maxine, Joan, Rick, Bea, Mike, Buddy, LuAnn, Derek, Josh, Jeff, Doug, Sonia and Lanny. They were always by his side.
There will be a gathering to honor David on Saturday, May 16 at 1 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, where David was a member for over 40 years.
In lieu of flowers, David wished that a memorial fund be set up to help middle class people receive help and not be left alone in their home. If you would like, make a donation to the David C. Jordan “I Can Help” Fund, c/o Sandra Jordan, 32 Sunset St., Thomaston, ME 04861.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
