Cushing man charged with fentanyl trafficking
ROCKLAND — A Cushing man made his initial court appearance Dec. 1 in Knox County Court after he was arrested by Rockland police for aggravated trafficking in drugs.
Christopher Benner, 48, appeared before Judge Sarah Gilbert who set bail at $1,000 cash. A condition of bail includes that Benner must report daily in person to the Thomaston Police Department.
On November 29, police located Benner’s vehicle parked on a dirt parking lot at 91 Camden Street. During their investigation, police discovered a white baggie in the center console of the car. Benner said the bag was trash but police identified the bag as narcotics, according to the affidavit filed in court by Rockland police.
Police also found a backpack in the vehicle containing drug paraphernalia including a scale, baggies, lighters, and some bongs or water pipes.
The drugs were tested by police on-site and determined to be a fentanyl and methamphetamine mix, weighing approximately 10 grams, according to the police report.
Benner admitted that he was selling drugs for income.
He will appear in court again on Jan. 25 for a dispositional conference.
