Cushing man arrested for threatening father, son with a knife
CUSHING — A Cushing man who allegedly threatened to "gut" a father and his teenage son "like a fish" was arrested and charged with crimes, but not before the father and son pinned the man between their truck and another car as they attempted to flee the scene.
A father and his son were allegedly chased out of a Cushing residence Wednesday night by 46-year-old Jason Baughman.
Knox County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Tim Carroll said in a press release that Baughman, who lived at the residence, chased the two males out and reportedly attempted to stab them.
The victim and his son took refuge in a truck, where Baughman continued to threaten them while slashing a tire and yelling he was going to "gut them like a fish." The victim attempted to get away, putting the truck in drive and "stepped on it," according to Carroll.
"The vehicle went forward and pinned Baughman between the truck and another car in the yard," said Carroll in the release. "The victim and his son left the residence and called 911, stopping a short distance down the road due to a flat tire."
Baughman was initially transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, and then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Before being transferred, Carroll said Baughman was arrested and charged with criminal mischief (Class D) and two felony counts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon (Class C.)
But Baughman wasn't the only one to get in trouble that night, according to Carroll. While deputies were at the hospital, continuing the investigation, Baughman's son, 25-year-old Cote Baughman, allegedly made threatening statements that he was going to "kill" the victim who injured his father while attempting to flee the Baughman residence with his own son.
"[Cote Baughman]... made threatening statements that he was 'going to kill him,' directed at the previous victim to revenge for his father being injured, and ran out of the hospital," said Carroll. "Deputy Arthur Smith chased Cote Baughman to the parking lot and placed him under arrest."
Cote Baughman, also of Cushing, was charged with terrorizing (Class D) and transported to Knox County Jail without further incident. Jason Baughman was released on bail at the hospital before he was transferred to Bangor for further treatment.
