Carole Lange Esley was born in Ohio on March 12, 1937. She passed away at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine, on August 13, 2020 at the age of 83 after a long illness.

Carole met her husband, artist Don Esley, in Rockport, Massachusetts. Together they spent a rich and creative life traveling the country. Along that path the homes they treasured the most were in the desert town of Shiprock, New Mexico and the seacoast communities of Camden and Rockport, Maine.

While in Shiprock, Carole worked for the Indian Health Service and the Navajo Nation as Medical Records Director at the tribal hospital. She and Don both established a reputation as true friends of the Navajo people, known as the Diné. Carole photographed many of the women known for their famous Navajo rugs and Don was recognized as an exceptional painter of Southwestern art.

After their move to Maine, Carole worked as an administrator at Pen Bay Medical Center. During that time, and after her retirement, she was also able to devote more time to her passion of photography. As an avid reader with an engaging personality and sharp mind, she was always ready to discuss art, cooking, current events and especially politics with a twinkle in her eye!

Carole will be dearly missed by family and friends in Maine, and those scattered around the country.

There will be no funeral services.
